Karachi, August 4, 2026:
NOWCommunities had the honour of hosting Mr. Nazeer Soomro, Director General Labour & Human Resource, Government of Sindh, who also serves as the Chairman of the Sindh Minimum Wages Board, during an official visit to the organization’s head office.
Mr. Soomro was accompanied by senior officials from the Labour Department, including the Secretary Labour and the Labour Inspector. The delegation was warmly received by Ms. Farhat Parveen, Executive Director of NOWCommunities.
The visit provided an excellent opportunity for a productive exchange of views on key labour-related issues affecting workers across Sindh. The discussions focused on the effective implementation of labour laws, enforcement of the minimum wage, promotion of decent work, compliance with International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, and the importance of the GSP+ framework in strengthening labour rights and improving working conditions in Pakistan.
During the meeting, Ms. Farhat Parveen presented an overview of NOWCommunities, highlighting the organization’s mission, ongoing programmes, and its continued efforts to promote labour rights, social justice, women empowerment, gender equality, and inclusive development through policy advocacy, research, community engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.
As a gesture of appreciation, Ms. Farhat Parveen presented Mr. Nazeer Soomro with a complete set of NAU Communities’ publications, showcasing the organization’s work, research, and contributions towards advancing labour rights and sustainable development.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Labour Department and civil society organizations in promoting the implementation of labour standards, protecting workers’ rights, and fostering inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development throughout Sindh.
