The Awaz Foundation Pakistan: Centre for Development Services (Awaz CDS-Pakistan), in collaboration with National Organisation for Working Communities (NOWCommunities), hosted the Provincial Launch of the Labour Rights Study titled: “Public Money, Private Harm: The Role of EU Procurement in Perpetuating Labour Violations”.
The study explored widespread labour rights violations in Pakistan’s textile sector, particularly in factories supplying European markets and highlighted the urgent need for improved labour governance, enhanced supply chain transparency, and stronger protections for workers.
The event served as a forum for productive dialogue between provincial stakeholders, government officials, civil society organisations, labour leaders, journalists and experts. The participants included Mehnaz Rahman (NOWCommunities), Farhat Perveen (NOWCommunities), Zia ur Rahman (AwazCDS-Pakistan), Muzammil Hussain (Towel Manufacture Association of Pakistan), Mathieu Vervynckt (SwedWatch), Habib Junaidi (People’s Labour Bureau Sindh), Zubair (mobiliser), Shahnaz (mobiliser), Saeed Baloch (Pakistan Fisher-folk Forum), Syed Nazar Ali (General Secretary Employer Federation of Pakistan), Kiran Zubair (Human Rights Department Sindh Government), and Rajveer Singh Sodha (Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister).
